Dezentrale Netzwerke überzeugen durch Technik und Inhalt – doch wie wird das Fediverse auch ästhetisch ansprechend? Am Beispiel des +1-Konzepts von Ralf Stockmann zeigt dieser Pitch, wie Gestaltung Initiativen sichtbarer und attraktiver macht.
Die 12 vhs Berlin sind seit Sommer 2024 bei Mastodon mit einem Verbundkanal aktiv. Ich stelle den Account vor, das Community Management, welche Themen auf der Plattform laufen, wie die Conversion zur möglichen Kursbuchung läuft (Wonderlink) und welche vhs-Kursthemen für die Fedi-Community interessant sein können.

Castopod hat Podcasts ins Fediverse gebracht, aber geschnitten wird noch mit proprietären Werkzeugen, die offene Kette reißt vor der Veröffentlichung. Podlibre schließt die Lücke: ein freier (GPLv3), lokaler Podcast-Editor mit Plugin-Workflow, lokaler Whisper-Transkription und direkter Veröffentlichung auf föderierte Hosts (Castopod, Funkwhale, Faircamp). Fünf Minuten dazu, warum das Fediverse eine souveräne Produktionskette braucht und wie ihr die Plugins und die Community mitbaut.

The Fediverse runs on a gift economy in Mauss's sense — but the exchange happens between people, not between users and instances; instances are the technical substrate underneath. Sustaining any real community this way still requires functional division of labor: accounting, law, governance. Drawing on my own attempt at a Fediverse study (Data Analyst certification, unpublished) as a cautionary case, I argue the harder question is exactly this institutional one.

ActivityPub has been ready for years — Mastodon, Pixelfed, Loops, even Germany's social.bund.de speak it. So why does joining the open social web still feel hard for the mainstream? The protocol gives you federation, not discovery or onboarding; those have to be built on top. We spent months building that layer and ran a closed beta with 50+ testers. Historically governments paid librarians to curate information. With the arrival of the internet that job has been left to for-profit search engines who manipulate the results for their own benefit. People tolerated that, but with the arrival of AI slop there is a stronger need for human curated content. This talk will review the history of content curation, my own experiences, useful technologies, and future directions.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together a community of people who want to build a human curated taxonomy or knowledge graph of the Fediverse. To make the ideas concrete, we will split into smaller groups, focused on software, marketing, people, communities, organizations and other topics. Each group will create a different branch of the directory. It is hoped that the project will continue after the conference is over.

Mit Punx.social und verschiedenen Aktionen versuchen wir seit Mitte 2025 die Punkszene ins Fediverse zu ziehen. Dies soll ein kleiner Überblick sein, was wir gemacht haben und was wir noch planen.

In this round table, working podcasters talk about how federation and open standards make creators resilient and, frankly, more serene about their work: if LinkedIn or any other network disappears tomorrow, we still have Castopod, WordPress, PeerTube and friends, and we do not have to change our habits.

Fachgesellschaften. Das schauen wir am Beispiel von Informatik und Mathematik
an.
Die Vision: Berlin bekommt seine eigene digitale Stimme.
Berlin ist eine weltoffene, innovative Metropole – im Fediverse fehlt bisher eine zentrale Anlaufstelle für die Stadt. Während der Bund mit social.bund.de vorangeht, hat Berlin noch keine eigene Instanz für institutionelle Organisationen. social.berlin soll eine unabhängige, öffentlich verwaltete Mastodon-Instanz werden, für Berliner Behörden, Organisationen, Bildungseinrichtungen, Vereine, Kultur- und Medienakteure, Unternehmen uvm.

Der Prototype Fund ist das erste niedrigschwellige Förderprogramm für freie Entwickler*innen in Deutschland, die innovative Open-Source-Software aus der Gesellschaft und für die Gesellschaft entwickeln. SciOp is an open source project aiming to decentralize research data hosting through BitTorrent and ActivityPub, so that the distribution and long-term archival of endangered research data sets can be shared between institutions and individual volunteers. In this presentation, we will show how SciOp is planning to use ActivityPub to coordinate between instances and to interact with the fediverse at large. It turns out that ActivityPub can be more than just social networking.

Wir erklären die Reichweitenlüge und warum uns Algorithmen und Ego-Metriken in passiven Konsum ziehen. Und wir fragen, wie wir stattdessen echte Resonanz, Beteiligung und politisch wirksame Kommunikation schaffen können.
Souveräner Chat und Anrufe lassen sich mit Matrix aufbauen. Das Protokoll erlaubt förderierte Echtzeitkommunikation und hat das Potential zum Standard europäischer und weltweiter Kommunikation zu werden.

Mixpost ist ein Open-Source-Multiposting-Tool. Bei Bonn.digital nutzen wir Mixpost im Alltag des Community Managements um Postings einzuplanen und in verschiedenen Netzwerken individuell zu posten. GreyThing is an experimental architecture for messaging and social applications built around portable identity, user-owned storage, and capability-based access. The core idea is cross-domain portability of identity: users should be able to keep continuity when they move across domains, providers, and software layers. This talk presents the model, its tradeoffs, and where it could realistically complement the Fediverse.
Für eine effektivere Vernetzung der progressiven Zivilgesellschaft, jenseits von schädlichen kommerziellen "sozialen Netzwerken" fehlt eine Plattform. Im Rahmen dieses Projektes werden alle politischen Termine, die in Deutschland (perspektivisch international) stattfinden, bzw. in zahlreichen Quellen zu scrapen sind, in EINER App/Plattform gut sortiert und transparent abgebildet. Ziel ist, die Schlagkraft der Zivilgesellschaft gegenüber der "Lobbykratie" und rechten Strömungen zu maximieren.
