Robert Gehl’s ‘Move Slowly and Build Bridges’ is the first scientific monograph on the fediverse. On methodology he writes: „To study Mastodon, I deployed the approaches I was trained in, mixing participant observation, software studies, and interviews.” His research design does not include data collection for quantitative analyses.
The reason why this is so, what limitations of observabity that implies and how those might be overcome will be topic of the panel discussion.
