DoeiDag is the Dutch equivalent of the German DiDay born in Belgium at Fosdem. How much more European can it get? In this talk we would like to share our experiences in providing people with tips and tricks on how to leave bigtech in The Netherlands: what works, what didn't, the role of the Fediverse and how can we combine forces in Europe to move away from bigtech.
Doei is the Dutch word for bye. Every 'DoeiDay' we say bye bye to bigtech.
In this presentation we would like to share DoeiDag our initiative inspired by the German DiDay. Our goal is to share our experiences & reach out to others and learn from each other.
For instance about this time we met with a politician in the Netherlands who was so enthusiastic that she promptly placed our sticker on her laptop. Or about how to contribute something new to the debate around bigtech, striving to engage people previously not being engaged on this topic. Focusing on the possibilities of non-bigtech apps & services celebrating their existence.
Björn Wijers (~336ppm), operating under the name Burobjorn.nl, has been helping organizations for over twenty years to realise ideas and ambitions using open source software development, open standards, and interaction design. In doing so, he strives for affordable, secure, accessible, user-friendly, privacy-friendly, sovereign, and sustainable solutions. Björn has long been an advocate digital resilience, fairer copyright laws and greater privacy awareness.
Not only in his professional work, but also in his volunteer roles as former board member of the Open Netherlands Association, NLUUG, and as Chapter Lead of Creative Commons Netherlands. Björn actively promotes the practical implementation of public values. In 2026 he co-founded the Dutch initiative Doeidag.
