In December 2022 I set up the Mastodon server for the Amsterdam City. This talk is about the bumpy road and how we are growing our fedi-coalition with publishers and companies. We'll preview the first cultural fedi-calendar made by two nightclubs from our capital. And I have some questions to the audience about stuff that I am still lost about.
Working on federation as a municipality. What are the reasons, obstacles and results of almost 4 years experimenting with the fediverse at Amsterdam Capital? How do we try to get departments on board, where did we fail and how do we see the road ahead?
We work together with musea, night clubs, newspapers and companies in the city to build a new social network from the ground up. We look at Activitypub and ATProto and start experiments with both.

Hello! I am currently working as a Public Tech Project Manager at the City of Amsterdam. Prior to this, I served on the board of a data-ethics investigation bureau, worked as a privacy officer at Fairphone, and as a security trainer at Greenhost. In addition, I enjoy collaborating frequently with De Waag and Bits of Freedom and have participated in their Fabacademy, among other programs.
I founded the Privacy Café for Bits of Freedom, organized numerous other events on the internet and politics, and researched privacy-enhancing technologies for online newspaper De Correspondent.
When away from the computer, you can find me in the garden.
